It was chosen in the year 1981 to create an awareness of those who have been arrested and disappeared due to various reasons by the police or security forces in many countries of the world. It is observed as an effort to collect information related to those who have disappeared due to war and other reasons.
- சர்வதேச காணாமல் போனவர்கள் தினம் ஆகஸ்ட் 30ஆம் தேதி அனுசரிக்கப்படுகிறது. உலகின் பல நாடுகளிலும் காவல் துறையினராலோ அல்லது பாதுகாப்பு படையினராலோ பல்வேறு காரணங்களால் கைது செய்யப்பட்டு காணாமல் போவோர் குறித்த ஒரு விழிப்புணர்வை ஏற்படுத்தும் நோக்கில் 1981ஆம் ஆண்டு இத்தினம் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டது.

- நோபல் பரிசு பெற்ற அணு இயற்பியல் விஞ்ஞானி எர்னஸ்ட் ரூதர்ஃபோர்டு 1871ஆம் ஆண்டு ஆகஸ்ட் 30ஆம் தேதி நியூசிலாந்தில் பிறந்தார்.
- இவர் யுரேனிய கதிர்வீச்சில் எக்ஸ் கதிர் இல்லாமல் 2 வித்தியாசமான கதிர்கள் இருப்பதைக் கண்டறிந்து அதற்கு ஆல்பா, பீட்டா கதிர்கள் என பெயரிட்டார். காமா கதிர்களையும் கண்டறிந்தார். இவர் மின்காந்த அலைகளைக் கண்டறியும் கருவி உட்பட பல கருவிகளை உருவாக்கியுள்ளார்.
- இவர் வாயுக்களில் உள்ள அயனிகளின் தன்மை குறித்து தாம்சனுடன் சேர்ந்து ஆய்வு செய்தார்.
- கதிரியக்கத் தனிமங்கள் குறித்த ஆய்வுகள் மற்றும் தனிமங்களில் ஏற்படும் கதிரியக்கச் சிதைவு குறித்த கண்டுபிடிப்புகளுக்காக இவருக்கு 1908ஆம் ஆண்டு வேதியியலுக்கான நோபல் பரிசு வழங்கப்பட்டது. இவருக்கு 1914ஆம் ஆண்டு இங்கிலாந்தின் நைட் (knight) விருது வழங்கப்பட்டது.
- அணுக்கரு பற்றிய இவரது கண்டுபிடிப்புகள் தான் அணுக் கட்டமைப்பு குறித்த இன்றைய கோட்பாடுகள் அனைத்திற்கும் அடித்தளமாக விளங்குகின்றன. 'அணுக்கரு இயற்பியலின் தந்தை" என போற்றப்படும் எர்னஸ்ட் ரூதர்ஃபோர்டு 1937ஆம் ஆண்டு அக்டோபர் 19ந் தேதி மறைந்தார்.
