Medha Patkar - a brief overview :


✒️Indian social activist Medha patkar was born on 1st December 1954 in Mumbai, India.

  • She is a widely known rights activist in India. She is best known for his role in the Narmada Bachao Andolan, an organization that gave the people a voice in the construction of the Sardar Sarovar Dam in Gujarat.

  • Her father was a participant in the Indian liberation struggle. Her mother was a member of Swadar, an organization that helps economically, educationally and health-conscious women. The awareness and charity of her parents sculpted his policies and ideas.

  • Medha patkar was the recipient of following awards, In 1991 Right Livelihood Award, 1999 M.A.Thomas National Human Rights Award, Deena Nath Mangeshkar Award, Mahatma Phule Award, 1999 Goldman Environmental Prize, Green Ribbon Award and the Human Rights Defenders Award.

  • She is the Commissioner of the World Commission on Dams.
