Jhalkaribai - a brief overview :

✒️Indian freedom fighter Jhalkaribai was born on 22nd November 1830 in the village of Bhojla in the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh.
  • She chose to learn all the arts including horseback riding and swordsmanship at an early age. Jhansi Queen Lakshmibai was amazed at her fighting prowess and bravery and enlisted Jhalkaribai in her army.
  • The English government repeatedly invaded the fort of Jhansi. Each time the invasions were repulsed by the heroic army of Queen Jhansi. Where Jhalkaribai role in it is important. 
  • During the Indian War of Independence in 1857, the British besieged Jhansi with a large force. At Kalpi, it was a challenge for Jhansi Rani, who had planned to join other revolutionary forces, to fight against the great army.
  • Jhalkaribai, who claimed to be fighting ahead of herself in the role of the queen, purposely kept the queen from escaping the fort. At the same time she led the Jhansi army and fought valiantly. But she was caught by the enemy without being able to fight the giant force.
  • The English government, which claimed to have captured Queen Jhansi, asked Jhalkaribai, "say, what do you want to do?" She said, "Execute me ." Later, the English government, realizing the fact that she was not a queen, praised her heroism and wisdom and released her. 
  • Some sources state that Jhalkaribai was martyred during the Battle of Jhansi in 4th April 1858.

  • The Government of India's Post and Telegraph department has issued a postal stamp depicting Jhalkaribai.
  • The Indian President Ramnath Govind unveiled the statue of Jhalkari Bai at Guru Tegh Bahadur Complex in Bhopal on 10th November 2017.
